Boat Status & Licences

Boat Status: Free vs. Licensed vs. Disabled

A boat can be either Licenced, Free or Disabled. Let’s take a look on what each status mean and what actions may or may not be performed:
  • Free: each account supports one (1) Free boat, conforming to the limits and quotas (refer to the Pricing page)

  • Licensed: many-boats are allowed per account, each one conforming to the limits and quotas of its assigned licence (refer to the Pricing page)

  • Disabled: many-disabled boats are allowed per account. This is a boat that the user had used in the past but it is now obsolete and the user don’t wish to assign a licence neither to keep active as Free. Each disabled boat is confirming to the following limitations:

    • The Owner may,

      • Not share

      • Not edit the boat

      • Not add/edit/delete any records

      • View the boat (card/list-views) and its configured details

      • View the boat-records (trips, logs, inventory, tasks, etc)

      • Delete the boat

      • Activate the boat,

        • as free, if there is no other Free boat active

        • by assigning a paid-plan licence

    • A Shared-user (recipient) may,

      • Not share

      • Not edit/delete the boat

      • Not add/edit/delete any records

      • Not assign licence

      • View the boat (card/list-views) and its configured details

      • View the boat-records (trips, logs, inventory, tasks, etc)

How to Activate or Upgrade a boat (assign Licence or Free)

After adding and configuring your boat, the next thing to do is assign a licence. There are numerous ways to do so:

  • Click the “Activate boat” button on a Disabled boat-card view

  1. Click the “Upgrade” button on a Free boat-card view
  1. Click “Details” on a boat-card and then either use the “Activate boat” button or click the three-dots button and select “Manage licence

On the following screen you will see the available licence-categories. In case you may already have some licence available, this will be shown in the respective plan. Similarly, if you have not assigned “Free” to one of your boats, this will be available and can be also selected. You may:

  • Select “Free” and click the “Assign licence” button (similarly if you have some Essentials/Plus/Pro licence available)

How to Buy a Licence

Select the paid-plan that fits your needs and click the “Buy new licence” button

How to Pay for a Licence

In the payment Confirm the paid-plan subscription and payment amount and then input your payment-card details and to complete your purchase. In line with our User Agreement, we don’t process any payments. Our payment-processing partner is Stripe and is the one processing any payment-card, including the card number, name, address, etc. Furthermore, and as clearly stated at our Privacy Policy, “Marine Data Cloud takes the privacy of your personal data very seriously, and we do not sell, rent, or otherwise provide your personally identifiable information to third parties”.

After completing the payment the licence will be available and you will be able to select it and assign it to a boat, as described previously.

In case the payment fails for any reason (insufficient balance, connectivity glitches, banking-system hiccups, etc) the licence will show as “Invalid” and thus will not be assignable (usable). In other words, the licence will show up in your account but will be pending the payment confirmation to be activated and be assignable.

You may retry manually to complete the failed payment by clicking “Invoices” on the left-side menu

Then locate the invoice tagged as “Open” and click to open it

You may now retry the payment with the same payment-card by clicking “Confirm payment”. Alternatively, click “Select a new payment method” and try again

How to View & Manage your Subscriptions & Licences

To view and manage your licences, click your account icon/name (top-right corner) and then click “Payment & Subscription

Subscriptions

You may select from the left-side menu to view your “Subscription” details and see all the available paid-plans and licences you have on each plan as assigned, total, invalid (see above), etc.

Selecting “Manage” on a plan shows you the respective details of the plan, including the payment method, billing frequency, date of next renewal and amount to be paid, subscription initiation date, etc. You may here update your:

  • Payment method

  • Address: providing updated information here assures you will have a proper invoice/receipt

Licences

You may select from the left-side menu to view your “Licences” details and see all the available paid-plans and licences you have on each plan as assigned/available.

Selecting “Manage” on a plan (licence category) shows you the respective licence(s) details, including licences assigned/total, which boat is in which plan, etc. You may here remove a licence from a boat, assign one to another or assign in bulk.

You may increase your licences by clicking on “Buy licences”. You now see your existing licences and may increase the quantity depending on your needs. Any added licences are prorated charged, meaning you are paying for only the remaining time until your subscription-end (e.g. if your subscription expires/renews on 31 DEC and you add licences on 1 JUL you will be charged for half the year, thus half the fee).

Similarly, you may decrease your licences by clicking on “Remove licences”. You now see your existing licences and may decrease the quantity depending on your needs. Removed licences take effect upon the subscription-end, at which date they are being removed.

How to Downgrade/Disable a Boat

By selecting an active boat (licensed or Free), the user sees the boat status and is able to remove any assigned licence. Doing so leads to two (2) potential scenarios:

  • Free: if there is no other Free boat, the licence removal converts the boat to Free

  • Disabled: if there is already a FREE boat, the licence removal disables the boat, without any data or configuration being deleted

Own boat downgrade/disable

  • Click “Details” on a boat-card and then click the three-dots button and select “Manage licence

Click the “Remove licence” button

  1. Confirm you wish to remove the licence from the specified boat

Following this, the removed licence appears as available within the user-account and the user is able to use it on some other boat.

All boat data remain intact and assign a new licence fully restores the boat’s functionality, conforming to the respective licence’s features and quotas (refer to the Pricing page). Following the licence removal, there two (2) potential scenarios and your boat will be converted to either:

  • Free: if there is no other Free boat in your account, the licence removal will convert your boat to Free. You will have full-access to your boat data to add/edit/remove records, always in accordance with the FREE features and quotas

  • Disabled: if a Free boat exists already in your account, the licence removal will disable your boat. All boat data (e.g. logs, trips, inventory, tasks, etc) and settings (e.g. boat personalisation, alerts, etc) will remain intact. You will have read-only access to your boat data and you’ll be able to view all data. You will also be able to delete this disabled boat, should you wish. If you need to edit/delete any data, you’ll need to either setup this boat as Free or assign anew a licence.

Shared-boat downgrade/disable

Neither any status change (disable/activate) may be performed nor any licence may be assigned to a boat you receive as shared from another user. Only the boat owner may disable a boat, assign or remove a licence, from within his account. Should a shared with you boat needs any such action, please contact the boat/account owner.
